It’s funny how an opportunity comes along and you have no idea what is in store until later… when you look back and see all the pieces of the puzzle come together.
In the fall of 2018, I was asked to draw a design to be judged. It was for an award to a country western singer’s foundation. However, I had no idea what was wanted. So, I asked about what kind of design and they told me ‘something Texas,’ as this person was a Texas boy.
At first, all I could think of was the Texas flag. Then, put on the spot and without any preparation, I scribbled out a quick sketch of the flag from memory.

Then, it was only a couple of days later that they contacted me. They chose my sketch! Because I won, they awarded me the commission for pendants and earrings for this couple.
Later, a short time after that, I attended an artist meeting where I met a copyright attorney and we worked together to get my design protected. Subsequently, it’s now is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office. (VAu 1-373-593)
eing a Texan brings a pride as big as Texas and wearing a symbol of that pride is amazing. And, what’s more amazing is being able to provide something that is also completely and totally unique.

The Texas Flag Design
The Texas flag has a long history, going back to 1838, and is a symbol that lives in the heart of every Texan. Of course, our flag uses the same colors as the American flag, with blue for loyalty, white for purity, and red for bravery. In addition, the iconic star, which gives Texas the nickname The Lone Star State, represents unity for ALL Texans. Read more about the history and symbolism of the Texas flag here.
