Ruby… dancing red starfish necklace

From the start, Artist Shirley Matteson designed and
created fine silver jewelry. Here, she adds Ruby, a gorgeous dancing red starfish necklace with red tones that are certain to stand out.

Taking inspiration from the red starfish of the western Pacific, Shirley has created a gorgeous, red starfish necklace named ‘Ruby’. Ranging from deep ruby tones to red, these red tones highlight the tiny gold wires used in the Cloissoné jewlery making process. In the end, the result is a luminous red starfish that’s sure to stand out.

Certainly, starfish are known for their ability to regenerate after an attack or injury. Plus, they have a unique ability to heal themselves from the damage of the world. Because of this, the starfish has become a symbol of personal growth and of renewal and regeneration. Often, starfish symbolize healing and filling the void of loss.

Because starfish come from the ocean, and usually from warm, tropical locations, they have a strong association with the beach and the water. Of course, hat’s why a starfish necklace makes a perfect gift for anyone who loves the beach and ocean. Clearly, a red starfish necklace would also make a perfect momento of a tropical vacation!

Creating the Ruby Red Starfish Necklace

Shirley uses a technique called ‘Cloissoné,’ to create these luminous red starfish. First, she bends tiny wires to form the round starfish markings. Then, she fills in the shapes with colorful enamel in a wide range of red tones. In the end, what emerges is a truly unique piece of wearable art that will stand out and get noticed.

Of course, Shirley’s starfish jewelry comes with a rosewood box, storage pouch, and sterling silver chain. Be sure to let her know at checkout if you prefer a 16-inch or 18-inch chain.  However, when you’re not showing off your fabulous starfish necklace, keep her in her silvercloth pouch so she won’t get tarnished.

If you prefer, Shirley’s starfish necklaces can also be made entirely in 22k gold. Please contact her for details and pricing.
