From the beginning, Artist Shirley Matteson designed and created fine silver jewelry. Here, she creates a gorgeous blue butterfly lapel decor jewel.

Inspired by butterflies of all colors, Shirley has created a gorgeous blue butterly lapel decor jewel. Certainly, the jewel tones of the blue enamel highlight the gold inlay and the tiny 24k gold wires used in the Cloissoné jewlery making process. Then, she sets the whole jewel in silver. The result is a gorgeous, bold blue butterfly jewel that adds sophistication to any outfit.

Shirley uses a technique called 'Cloissoné,' to create these luminous butterflies. First, she inlays gold into the butterfly shape, then bends tiny wires to form the butterfly wings structural lines. Then, she fills in the shapes with a black edge and body and the remainder with transparent enamel. In the end, what emerges is a truly unique piece of wearable art that will stand out and get noticed.
